I'm sure we all feel great seeing photos and videos of huge protests. This isn't accomplishing much. We need more. I don't know what that is. I just know that we need it.

Trying my best my friend. Words cannot convey what I feel for you and your partner. I know that what I can contribute now isn’t enough. We’re pushing so hard, but we’re up against so much. I hope to find better ways soon

This can only be a start.

Protests need to be consistent. They need to have clear demands and they need to be determined to escalate, if the demands aren't met.

So show up to every protest you can. Organize to formulate specific demands. And plan how you can increase the effect of the protests in the future. Block roads, block buildings of complicit entities and prepare to fight back if the police starts attacking you. Find ways to educate, organize and do direct actions in your area outside of protests.

You saw how Musk is now crying because people stop buying his swasticars and swasticars dealerships aren't left alone. Direct action works, and protests work, if they are disruptive. Don't let the Center-"Liberals" weaken your resolve by pushing for everything to follow police orders at the protests and just do some singing and talking. These kind of protests do not work and they are pushed by this kind of people to just feel good about themselves rather than create any change of substance.

People disaffected by what is happening need to create organizations and then get people into politics state, local, and congress to affect change. The only thing protest can do is raise awareness. Until you have allies with actual power to make policy nothing will change.

Effect change. That's the rare verb form of "effect".

I am so very sorry to hear this. I cannot imagine what it has been like for you two. Do you mind me asking when this happened? Has she been released now?

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

She was imprisoned in her home country for criticizing the royal family in her home country. That was six years ago. She escaped and came here as a refugee. We're not making waves to protect her. How fucked up is that.

Pretty fucked up. Is she safe now?

That's good to hear. I'm sure that trauma lingers however :/
