FIFA really wants to build this up as a competitor to the Champions League, UEFA's golden goose. Let's see how it plays out.

I can't really see it competing against CL. Everyone except for Europeans seems to care for it, but from a European point of view, the CL will always be a more competitive competition. The soon to be PL winner Liverpool is missing, the second best PL team is missing, Barcelona is missing, etc...

Chelsea qualifying for winning CL in 2021 is just hilarious, the shelf life of football teams aren't always that long.

A quadrennial club competition where you qualify four years in advance is completely idiotic. Though I can't say I have a great solution for what the CWC should look like that doesn't involve introducing a complete fuckton of further matches onto an already cramped schedule.

In my opinion the solution is quite simple. Go back to the old model, which was way more limited in scope, or perhaps even consider scrapping it entirely.
