Thank you, it was more of a happy accident but I'm very pleased this worked out.

I'm not sure of the species, but it might be a funnel web spider's burrow? I didn't stick around long enough to see the spider, I just assume it's quite venomous and treaded carefully.

Ah-ha - Australian detected! UK spiders just don't attract that sort of worry :)

Actually I'm in California, but I'll take that as a compliment!

Our funnel web spiders are pretty mild but it could have also been a brown recluse or wolf spider. Not super deadly but not a fun bite by any means.
