Rigby would like to convey his appreciation that he was so well portrayed in a comic

Anybody remember the Malcolm in the Middle episode where Reese joined a dog pack and started acting like a dog? The mailman showed up and Reese went to the window and started shouting, "Who are you? You don't live here?! Go away! Go! Go! Go!" Exactly like a barking dog. I think all those kids were underappreciated as actors. Although they're each worth like $10 million now. So okay, happy ending.

Thanks! I was remembering it wrong as "Go!" but 'What!" is a lot better.

I have a dog and a five year old. The dog will, indeed, engage with the mail person; he won't bark, but he'll stand at the window and kind of huff.

One time, he did so and my child also ran over to the window, asking something like "who is that?!" I jokingly suggested that the kid could help the dog to defend the property.

Since then, whenever the kid notices anyone unexpected on the porch, they run to the window going "huff! Huff!" I haven't seen any delivery people react yet, but I have to wonder what they think.

I had a mini schnauzer who liked to bark (aka, couldn't help himself... he tried his best though, he was a darn good boy). But the mailman was, by far, his favorite to bork at through the window

My boy got out the front door one day (cold weather would cause the door to not latch properly) and ran across a busy street

The mailman was driving by, pulled over, grabbed him out from the middle of the road, and knocked on my door to bring him back (he recognized my dog from the window). I woke up to the knocking, bleary-eyed and confused, trying to figure out why my dog was being delivered to me. It took a second to put the pieces together, but I've never been so thankful... it was a very busy road and could have been tragic

My dog still barked through the window at this guy, as much as ever... but it was definitely now absolutely, his favorite "stranger" to bark at. That dog loved mail-time forever more lol

And that's why you should teach your dog to stop once you acknowledge the intruder and reward him with a treat.

Edit: I meant reward your dog with a treat.

Why would I give an intruder a treat?

[–] Emi@ani.social 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sorry, I meant to give the treat to your dog.

[–] meliaesc@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

My intruder is sad now.

My chihuahua will become a little demon if any stranger gets too close to me. You can get close to him and he won't do shit and will, in fact, be super friendly, but you try and shake my hand or something and he will snarl and bark and snap at you.

He's just angry the attention isn't going to him.

story about my sister's dog that isn't related to the overall thread here but I just want to tell because it's one of my favorite memories of him (he's still alive)I'll never forget the one time it was so obvious my sister's dog was jealous. My long-distance partner was visiting so we were cuddling and whatnot; and I kind of hasn't noticed but he's whining and running around us in the background. So my partner gets up as we were moving over slightly and the second I sit down – but before my partner has sat down in my lap – he dives into my lap and just looks up at me with the most pleading face I've ever seen him have, his tail doing that little timid half wag dogs sometimes do.
