If you ever feel your job is useless just remember that someone, somewhere is installing turn signals in BMWs.

The hell is a vanos? Is that like a buttfor?

VANOS is BMWs variable valve timing system

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Thanks! That sounds like something that consumer products don't really need, and customer services makes bank off of. I did the timing on 2 bmws and it was very simple. But they were mid 1980s 5 series, lots of under the hood space, simple engines.

Yesn't. Variable Valve Timing (VVT) isn't needed for a car to be able to run, yes, but VVT is the key to allow decent performance out of a smaller displacement, which also means major advantages in fuel economy. So you may be saving in repairs, however if it weren't for VVT, you'd be paying what you saved in gas

You do realise almost every modern car has some type of variable valve timing, right? It's part of how they get the combination of economy and performance they do.

The MINI division figured out the oil leak problem a long time ago: burn up the oil faster than you can leak it. My old R56 wants a quart every 1k-2k miles and changes at 4k-6k. If she leaked, if never know it. Still runs fucking beautifully, though, which is a miracle among R56s.

Still didn’t install blinkers.

Don't worry, those are the only stock components on a used Beamer because of how little they're used

There's a reason why Germans call BMWs "Bayrischer Mistwagen" (Bavarian shit can)

[–] Hubi@feddit.de 6 points 2 years ago

My favorite has always been "Bei Mercedes Weggeworfen" or "thrown in the trash at Mercedes".

I always called them "Bourgeoise Meat Wagon".

My E39's cup holders are completely useless. Apparently in Europe, it isn't common to have a drink while you're driving

[–] datelmd5sum@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

We don't drink soders and it's frowned upon to drink beer while driving.

[–] hawgietonight@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

It isn't common. As a driver you can be fined for distracting actions like eating or drinking while driving.
