The stats are casualties, but either way, the number of dead and wounded Russians is crazy. Reminds me how, in the US, a few dozen Americans dying at once in Iraq would make national news. Meanwhile in Russia, that's just another assault on just another field.
A bit over a third of this number is dead Russians. The other two thirds or so are severely wounded that will never be able to return to duty. The numbers are about how the Russian army is faring, not about how many Russians have died. The army shrinking or growing is relevant; whether Russians live or not is not.
