Is this a thing that I could legally do myself or is there no choice but to suck it up and commit to more than the life expectancy of the panels before roi? We got two quotes last summer that were just not happening mainly due to windows and roof both bedding replacement as well. The current concrete tile is likely to be replaced with a cheaper material.

Yes, you can legally DIY solar in BC with a homeowner electrical permit through Technical Safety BC, but you'll need to pass inspection so the wiring/connection to grid must meet code - many folks do a hybrid approach where they DIY the mechanical mounting and hire an electrician just for the final hookups wich can save thousands while staying legal.

I think technical safety BC does home owner permits but you are gonna have a ton of rework when you get inspected.

oof my house has an obscene number of switches and sockets that I already replaced which I have just learned is supposed to have a home owner permit, which I didn't get. I also learned that home depot has an automatically applied bulk discount if you buy enough receptacles at a time...
