General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

If you see someone trying to do this - you didn't.

You will never be rewarded for selling out other humans but they will almost certainly be punished.

So the border police claim to have found the stowaway and then went 'that's not my problem'?

[–] ladfrombrad@lemdro.id 17 points 5 months ago (1 children)

And then "punish" the motorhome owners for negligence. No negligence fines for the Border Force missing then and/or inquiry about straight up lying about finding the stowaway later on?

lol, you couldn't make it up. Surely there's a police report stating that the couple phoned it in and is in black and white.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 24 points 5 months ago

All this policy will do is encourage people not to report stowaways. Totally bonkers.

[–] rah@feddit.uk 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Bizarre that the article doesn't address the reasons why the boy wanted to come to the UK. As per usual.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Because that's not the focus of the article, it's specifically about the policy of fining people who report stowaways.

[–] rah@feddit.uk 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Because that's not the focus of the article

They went to the trouble of explaining the age of the boy and where he was from and by your logic those bits of information aren't the focus of the article either.

You're just guessing, you don't know. We can all make guesses.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk -1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Why is it relevant to the article about why he came here? The point of the article is that people were fined for reporting him, highlighting the ridiculous policy.

[–] rah@feddit.uk 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Why is it relevant to the article about where he came from?

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It's not, they could have left it out and it wouldn't have changed anything.

they could have left it out and it wouldn't have changed anything

LOL, it would have changed the article.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Why? The article is about the couple being fined for finding the stowaway after they left the port, the gender, age and reason the stowaway came to the UK is irrelevant to that.

[–] rah@feddit.uk 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

The article is about the couple being fined for finding the stowaway after they left the port, the gender, age and reason the stowaway came to the UK is irrelevant to that.

Why do you believe the gender and age were included in the article?

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

What would it have changed about it if they weren't included and it just said "an immigrant"?

[–] rah@feddit.uk 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

You didn't answer my question.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Honestly, no idea. To me it's irrelevant to the story of the couple and the policy. It doesn't matter if they were a man or a woman, young or old. It's also irrelevant what their height and weight are, their favourite food or sports are.

Now you answer my question.

[–] rah@feddit.uk 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

To me it's irrelevant

I think that's the crux of the issue. You've conflated your interests and the author's purposes.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 5 months ago

The only issue here is that you're upset the author hasn't mentioned why the immigrant entered the country even though that's not the point of the article. You're the one with the issue.

Now answer my question.

[–] MrPoletki@feddit.uk 5 points 5 months ago

That's some major bullshit right there. Utter idiocy issuing them with a fine.

[–] Mrkawfee@feddit.uk 3 points 5 months ago

Oh no, JD Vance is going to use this in his next speech to promote European fascism.

[–] snaprails@feddit.uk 2 points 5 months ago

Enquiring minds need to know, was the stowaway called Gary?
