This won't do, they don't have a pun or funny reference in their URL!

Looking forward to Firefox local translations, my French isn't good enough

Edit: Also when they add all extensions, Imgur doesn't load on mobile for me

Isn't local translation already a thing? I had it for a while already

oh are you guys using the extension, I just got it

I think the news article I saw recently was talking about it being built in?

https://9to5linux.com/firefox-118-enters-beta-testing-with-the-built-in-translation-feature-for-websites

[–] SSUPII@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 years ago

Probably. I installed it then forgot about it, didn't have the need to remember it was an extension anyway.

It becoming built-in is perfect.

You can enable the built-in feature in about:config with browser.translations.enable

Imgur is spyware crap, since time I use FileCoffee, way better (host and share image, multimedia, videos, documents, PDF, presentations, text, apps, 100% free, encrypted, private, made in the EU), alternatively you can use Vgy.me (same, but only images, by default it delete the EXIF data, if exist).

Just to make you aware: Linguist is an add-on that allows you to change its settings to use the Bergamaot offline translator, making it totally private.

FF local translations is already there in the stable releases. Just update!

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

What version are you on? In particular I was hoping for a built in version on mobile since I can't get the extension like on Desktop

[–] pietervdvn@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Ah, I was talking about desktop. Afaik this is not yet on mobile.

I'm using Fennec BTW

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago

Ah understandable, thank you though

The German government also has a Mastodon instance: https://social.bund.de

E.g. the German federal government (“Bundesregierung”) toots here: https://social.bund.de/@Bundesregierung

The real question is whether they'll federate with NSFW subs.

Great news!

How is it privacy friendly? Not trying to troll of anything, but people literally share all their likes/dislikes plainly with everyone, and deletes don’t have to actually be executed on other servers.

[–] pescetarian@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have one and the most important question, why exactly Mastodon? Not Friendica, pleroma or Misskey or something....

[–] HKayn@dormi.zone 1 points 2 years ago

Most likely because out of those, Mastodon is the most well known.
