In the spirit of !buyeuropean@feddit.uk it isn't just about goods and services, soft power packs a punch.

So name your favourite European films. The article link is just to get you started.

Yeah, if we are going for European films, but watching them on YouTube then we are only doing half the job.

What disqualifies a film from being considered European?

[โ€“] Emperor@feddit.uk 3 points 5 months ago

Not being made in Europe or not being a European (co) production and, for the purposes of this list, being American. IMDb has a "country of origin" field, so, if in doubt, check that.

I love the Turkish/German multicultural productions by Fatih Akin.

  • Kebab Connection
  • Solino
  • Im Juli
  • Gegen die Wand

The last one was very controversial when people clocked that the female lead Sibel Kekilli used to star in porn movies. She went on to play Shae in Game of Thrones and the lead investigator in the German crime movie series Tatort.

I think my favourite Fatih Akin movie is Im Juli. A funny love story of a man chasing his love through eastern Europe from Germany to Turkey.

And now that I think back on the time when I watched those movies I'm reminded of the brilliant Skandinavian movies out there.

  • De grรธnne slagtere
  • I Kina spiser de hunde
  • Smala Sussie

Good times, when my best friend would knock on my door (without having to bother my parents), we'd smoke some weed and then watch some Monty Python, Battlestar Galactica or the next great European movie we could find.

I remember really enjoying Run, Lola, Run. But I haven't watched it in years...
