Holy shit. How did you get to know about Lemmy and why did you join?

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 years ago

Not OP but reddit and the piracy subreddit

[–] riccardo@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

At the time I knew what the fediverse was and I was using Mastodon quite consistently, and I was waiting for a federated alternative to reddit. Raddle at the time was already a thing, but federation was not on their roadmap.

As per how I found it... here's a comment from four years ago :)

[–] FredericChopin_@feddit.uk 12 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Why it say 4y ago but account created 2023?

[–] Nemo@midwest.social 27 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Instance admins can change literally any of that information in the database. There's a user whose account info says she's been on lemmy for a century.

[–] FredericChopin_@feddit.uk 9 points 2 years ago (2 children)

You might be correct, although I would have expected the 4y ago part to not be a column in the database.

It would more likely have a CreatedAt column of type DateTime. Then using something like moment in the client you can format to show the date and time since, which makes it strange here that we seemingly have CreatedAt and TimeSinceCreation columns which is odd no?

[–] christophski@feddit.uk 3 points 2 years ago

There's nothing to stop them changing the creation date though

Just a couple months - around July 2023. No point in being on Reddit anymore since I got a sitewide ban for not being an Andrew tate fan.

Rapist psycho misogynists deserve to have a horrible penetrative thing happen to them in prison. I’m not sorry.

[–] FredericChopin_@feddit.uk 1 points 2 years ago

Fuck Andrew Tate but an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind fam.

Id say this is more likely than admin manipulation.

Since June 13, 2023.

2023 / 13 * 6 produces a cool repeating pattern of 692307:

I created my account last year but only started using it properly during the APIcalypse

June 22nd, 2023.

I was simultaneously desperately hoping RIF for Reddit wouldn't die...

Now however, I'm still sad about RIF, but very happy about being here on Lemmy!

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

Counting from my first account almost 4 years, a bit over 3 year on this one

[–] Interesting_Test_814@jlai.lu 5 points 2 years ago

16 June 2023 - my account appears newer than that because I switched instance.

[–] everett@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago

Longer than I thought. When I tried to register I was annoyed that the username was taken, but it turned out they also dropped the info in my password manager back in 2021!

[–] mouse@midwest.social 3 points 2 years ago

June 1st, 2023 = 102 days

[–] FredericChopin_@feddit.uk 3 points 2 years ago

Since the mighty exodus. I’ve not been back to that other place, I don’t spend as much time on here as I did there which is a win for me.

[–] TheImpressiveX@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Since January 2021. I left Lemmy for about a year, then came back during the Reddit blackout.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 years ago

See my cake day.

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

July 26th 2020, a day that will live on in infamy as the first day of Hexbear.

[–] shortwavesurfer@monero.town 3 points 2 years ago

My very first account was in Feb of 2022, but i kinda abandoned it until the 3rd party apps blackout on June 12. Then i came back and really started to kick the tires.

[–] gestrow@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

3 days now. I miss the abuse of reddit. Jk

[–] 0next@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 years ago

Just a few months ago.

[–] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

I signed up to see what it was about during the Redditmageddon. I'm still on both sites and always will be though.

[–] DRx@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Since the day before the Reddit strike… so mid June?

[–] cynetri@midwest.social 2 points 2 years ago

December of 2022. I was moving away from closed-source social media, and after Twitter -> Mastodon, Reddit was next. I didn't become active til the whole API thing tho, because Lemmy didn't have some communities that I liked. So I made one lol

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Two years, apparently. I posted like two comments and came back after the Reddit API crisis to never look back.

27th August 2023

I knew about Lemmy for nearly 2 years prior to The Blackout and slowly gained some traction after the birth of the instance I created my account in (which started as a subreddit but for reasons around one year ago their exodus began)

[–] Sonic@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 years ago

an hour.

hi

(to be fair i did check things out here every once in a while since the api debacle but i didn't sign up until now)
