I think what they are trying to say is that “people who have been hurt are likely to also hurt other people”, likely in reference to generational trauma or something. But it’s so laughably easy to read a different interpretation that it’s certainly a bad idea.
Besides, I’m pretty sure the implication is “forgive the shitty behavior of your parents because they were also traumatized” and I disagree with that. People continuing to cause trauma need to be simply cut off; that’s the only way to heal.
