Plot twist: Mills wins reelection by using the domestic abuse conviction as a springboard

If convicted, he will get pardoned by the fucking monsters in the white house.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

That's not how this works...

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The trajectory that we are on now is certainly not based on precedent.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

By that logic someone could say numbers in the House and Senate don't matter either.

We don't punt fights.

Doesn't matter if we win or lose, we fight every fight.

Bare minimum we're keeping the clock running.

What the fuck are you talking about. We're talking about a president pardoning people. Fucks sake. I'm not saying anything about giving up or throwing in the towel. JFC.

You're saying to accept that he can do things he can't, and to let those things happen.

That snowballs.

It might not seem to be a big deal to you, but it sounds like you don't want the "why" explained.

Want to just take my word on it instead? I'm watching Bernie's townhall right now.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world -1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I'm just saying what will happen as effect. I've had a long day and you're just making it longer with this nonsense.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It's not nonsense.

This wouldn't be prosecuted by a US attorney, trump can not issue a pardon.

Those are facts and facts matter.

If you've had a long day I'm almost positive no one has forced you to make a single comment anywhere online...

You can just stop replying bro, no one will judge you for that, at least 50% in every single exchange does it. I don't think anyone is going to be upset with less defeatist comments online these days either.

Can you please leave me alone? I'm not interested in your positivity bullshit right now. Many of us are processing the many many very real fascistic things that are being done to impoverish, harm, or kill people. Whether or not you think they can be done legally, they are still being done and some of us have emotions that we have to endure for a goddamn minute. Emotions are transient and the fight against all this will go on but you need to know that mansplaining your positivity vomit isn't always welcome. Fucks sake, have some empathy.

Mate, I reply when you reply...

Like I just said:

If you’ve had a long day I’m almost positive no one has forced you to make a single comment anywhere online…

No one is forcing you to tell people not to fight against fascism, and to just let them have this one...

But if you're going to keep advocating for that, I'm going to keep saying that's the worst possible plan.

Every fight matters.

If you want to sit this one out, at least just sit it out, don't yell at others to sit down so you don't feel guilty

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world -2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Stop. It. When someone tells you to stop; respect the request and cease. You don't need to get the last word. You're just a bully. Blocked.

This is the most ridiculous exchange I've had on Lemmy...

DC police are federal, i think, so you can see how this ends

[–] ricecake@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 months ago

Briefly looking at the wiki article, it looks like it's more complicated than that. The president does have pardon power there, but not all crime in DC is a federal crime. There's a lot of fiddly bits where for many purposes DC acts like a state as well as a city.

what's the broader context?

He brutalized a sex worker?

[–] SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

He brutalized a person.

That's the context.

What is wrong with you?
