This actually looks like Truth Social is blocking Ukraine as opposed to Ukraine blocking Truth Social

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 67 points 5 months ago (1 children)

100%, the logo image wouldn't load if this was state block.

[–] Dashi@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Not necessarily, it would depend on the type of block but 99% of the time you are right.

[–] Natanael 4 points 5 months ago

Redirects or mirror used in a block will usually specify who is hosting the warning

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 48 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Correct. Also for those interested:

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago (2 children)

So they are also blocking Russia?

Or they are blocking a Russian vpn endpoint?

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'm not in Russia and they're not blocking the Saudi Arabian VPN endpoint.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Sorry. I don’t understand what the screenshot is trying to show.

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

That the same message is displayed when setting the VPN to Russia.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Oh, so like I said. A Russian vpn endpoint is being blocked.

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 0 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Oh, so like I said. A Russian vpn endpoint is being blocked.

How do you come to the conclusion that only a VPN is blocked when the same VPN provider works fine when pointing the VPN to Saudi Arabia?

Most likely, TS is blocking all connections from Russia.

[–] Mohamed@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 months ago

Youre both saying the same thing!

"A russian VPN is blocked" is what you showed. From that, we can infer that probably all Russian ip's are blocked.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

You're both so confident when it could be either and we don't yet have evidence which.

[–] Lifter@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

The only evidence we have is that the VPN endpoint was blocked, like one of the people are saying. Anything further than that would be speculation.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 1 points 5 months ago

Weird echo in here.

Blocking Russia (source: i live in ru)

[–] Voyajer@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

I didn't even consider the alternative

Not sure why "Truth" Social needs to run outside of America anyway, it's just an American ~~misinformation~~ disinformation platform aimed at Americans.

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 27 points 5 months ago

American misinformation is free to all

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 21 points 5 months ago

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 19 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Misinformation is unintentional. Truth Social is a disinformation platform.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 2 points 5 months ago

True, used the wrong word there! It's definitely intentional!

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Last time I looked around there, there were a ton of scammers which I assumed were Russian. Lot of crypto scam shit. Also figured Russians were helping with the propaganda. But someone else in this thread posted what appears to show the site is blocked in Russia too. Which seems odd.

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

The general russian people are being fed a completely different set of propaganda messages. They don't want them getting confused.

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 28 points 5 months ago (1 children)

ukrainian isps blocking truth social, or truth social blocking access from ukrainian ips? looks like the latter

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 24 points 5 months ago

i bet that both of ukrainian users are real mad about it rn

Taking bets on how long before Trump claims this means Russia was right about Ukraine being run by nazi's, and cuts off all aid en route cold turkey?

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

"they're being run by Nazis" says the guy standing next to the Nazi salute guy and the secretary of defence with the Nazi tattoo ..

Every accusation is a confession, as usual.

Lucky Ukraine

Wild it took them this long to block an obvious tool being used against their civilians, but then again we still have Twitter and TikTok dumbing down Americans...
