How did the trade become less important for China? Aren't they spending lots of money on their Silk Road infrastructure around the balkan countries? And let's be honest, except for a few countries like India or Korea and Japan, there aren't that many great trading partnes for China yet. Maybe some african countries but they don't have so much buy force yet. So if China is decoupling itself from "the west" who is it going to trade with?

Trade with the west has become less important for China, not trade in general.
I don't think trade with the west has become less important. They may seek trading partners in perhaps Australia, but they still need and want to trade with "the west". I am not quite sure what the statement "Uncle Sam and friends" is supposed to refer to, but according to the news I am reading, trade with Europe becomes even more important for china, since so far, they haven't banned any technology from China.
