Considering how more damaging it is, I wonder does the world have a handle on how much methane is being released? Especially from thawing permafrost land. Climate change keeps seeming to happen quicker than we expect.

They've gotten a much better handle on it in the last few years, with some extremely edifying and useful surprises to be found. It's been a really good thing. Unfortunately, it was all getting done by NASA and NOAA, which means it's about to come crashing to a heartbreaking and unnecessary stop.
