I've been reading Marvelman since (checks calendar) 1982 and Mark Buckingham had taken over the writing as well as providing the art, with minimal involvement from Gaiman for a while. It seems rather harsh on Buckingham although the story hasn't been any great shakes since Moore but left his art has made it worth checking out. I suspect this is largely Marvel cutting their losses.
