Waking up to a military helicopter colliding with a passenger plane today made me think. Wow. Could this be an effect of throwing our whole national system into chaos with all sorts of firings, defunding, pushing out of personelle, dropping of infrastructure, etc?

The firing on the 21st was the Aviation Security Advisory Committee. Which is plane hijackings and bombings. But Musk did “friendly” pressure the Michael Whitaker to step down. Mostly because Musk was still upset about being grounded because his rocket broke up over some Caribbean Islands.

So no direct effect, but all the recent firings in the FAA are likely to have had knock on effects, that might have led to this. DC is a crazy busy airport. Maybe this was bound to happen. But there’s always the current chaos going on that Trump is making that’s just adding to the pile.

I’m not going to put direct blame on the President but I’m totally going to go with, fucking around with agencies have effects, it affects people who need to put 1,000% of themselves into their job. The President seriously needs to get a fucking handle on this upheaval he’s causing. These people need to go back to giving their undivided attention to their job. Otherwise more people are likely to die.

As someone who works in a government agency linked to flying and airports, the cheeto and the muskrat are causing disruption and unease in areas they shouldn't be allowed anywhere near. With funding issues and retirements personnel are already in short supply in areas that are vitally important and distracting the people who still here and trying to get a handle on things is a very, very bad idea.

Oh man I just saw the press conference and Im like who is this guy showing as head of the faa and then I saw all the top posts are vacant due to the one guy resigning on the 20th when musk gave him shit. What a nightmare. Then the conference they are trying to blame it on biden and dei. Yeah this is going to be great. Only the best and brightest in corruption and graft.

Making me wonder if I should start worrying for my job. I will say, if they start screwing around with the FAA it will make it a lot more dangerous for those who are flying and I can all but promise that.

Im currently unemployed and my current nibble would have me flying once a month. This just adds insult to injury as I don't fly or drive unnecessarily for environmental reasons so I already hated the thought.

My thoughts after hearing the briefing. Yikes.

[–] Holyginz@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

The vile stuff he was spewing regarding DEI and the FAA during that briefing was honestly infuriating.

This completely jives with my thoughts and feelings on it this morning.

The idiots in charge now want the federal employees that they hate to investigate this crash. The ones they just threatened with termination.

Why people voted for this shit is beyond me.

[–] Holyginz@lemmy.world 16 points 6 months ago (2 children)

They sent out an email trying to trick federal employees into resigning over email. And they sent it out to people who are in charge of all of the technical things going on. Needless to say the vast majority just ignored it.

I'd like to see that email, any chance you've got it quick at hand?

Edit: below is wrong, you posted the email in full, I'm a dunce, thank you! My shame will remain below lol

Unless I've missed something, that's not the email. It does quote it heavily, but nonetheless. That's a link to a Lemmy post of an NBC news article, that talks about and quotes the email.

[–] limelight79@lemm.ee 2 points 6 months ago

No worries. I'm a fed and it's the email I received.

I'm actually on vacation this week, but I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not with this going on.

Unfortunately, much as I would like to put it out there, posting that email online isn't something I'm comfortable doing with everything going on and how up in the air things are currently. I can say that if you search online you might be able to find it, and if not a full version of it you can kinda get a good idea of what it is. It basically says if you reply resign to the email you will be put on a deferred resignation and be able to still gain pay for like 8 months or something of that nature. Needless to say, not many people are doing that because it's very sketchy seeming. I wouldn't trust musk lackeys not to get that response and immediately let you go with no money. It also leaves things like retirement and other benefits up in the air. And at the end it gives a thinly veiled threat about changing employee positions to be at will and people having positions and jobs eliminated. It makes very little sense and is very legally sketchy. It also is trying to go around the very large bargaining units present in the FAA.

Edit: Sergio has posted a response that shows exactly the email and a response from one of the unions that you can take a look at.

Its funny they would try something like that in jobs where there are so many kinds of official paperwork. It completely sounds like scam email trying to get you to click a link.

[–] Holyginz@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago

Absolutely. Honestly I think they are so used to taking over companies where they can just do whatever they want they have zero idea how much is involved with federal employees.

[–] Benjaben@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

So sorry my friend, never meant to put you in a weird spot - I was 100% just asking for a link to a publicly posted copy. Cheers and thanks for pointing this out!!

[–] Holyginz@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

No worries. I might be being over cautious, but we are in a situation that's never happened before so it's hard to tell.

[–] limelight79@lemm.ee 4 points 6 months ago

Oh I'm aware.

Might have to rejoin reddit for the fed news sub. :(

It’s almost as if they were hired for a reason.

I was getting kind of sick of seeing this comic in the feed every day, but this post just earned my goodwill for the rest of the year at least.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I actually figured once a day was not bad since its not like it comes constantly up throughout the day. I actually was more worried about drawing away from the authors site but I basically asked permission and they said it was cool. Will likely stop when I get a job though and I don't do the weekend ones which they have this non sequitor thing on saturdays and then open artwork they did sorta on sundays. Partially because my weekend schedule is different and partly I figure folks that really like it will hit up the site anyway.

[–] Sergio@slrpnk.net 1 points 6 months ago

oh yeah once a day is cool I woulda just made a filter if it really bugged me...

[–] SplashJackson@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)
