I run a media server (plex among other things) that I share with friends and family. It’s a labor of love, I’m sure many of you relate. I’ve run out of SATA ports and would like to throw a few more storage drives In there.

I’ve read here that HBA is better than PCI-E sata card because the sata cards are frequently of poor quality in this crypto mining age.

I see that there is 6gbps and 12gbs hba’s. The 12 will presumably result in faster file transfers and file playback speed? Or is the difference not worth paying more for?

Can I trust that any of the cable bundles are fine so long as they have a lot of solid reviews?

Would someone recommend a good hba on Amazon or EBay? I’ll pay more if there is appreciable difference in speed or quality. I hear they run hot, but I have well thought-out airflow in my pc.
