Joaquin Phoenix for Worst Actor>. /doubt

Haven't seen the movie but he's always been more than adequate with his performances. My guess is it's either bad directing, editing, or both that he's taking the rap for.

the movie is intentionally bad. if he's bad in it, it's just because he did the job he was asked, aka, he did a good job being an actor

Joker didn't suck, it just wasn't the movie people wanted.

I like musicals and still think it was pretty bad. It's a jukebox musical which are usually bad anyway.

Almost none of the songs move the story forward. Most of them are just we are in love numbers. You get one maybe two of those a musical.

Joaquin Phoenix is a good actor and a terrible singer. Lady Gaga is a good singer and terrible actor. So every scene with them both has one of them doing a bad job.

I decided to skip Joker 2 once I heard it was a musical (and then I heard the reviews were bad).

You got me curious about Phoenix's singing so I looked up some clips on YouTube.

You were right, it's not good. Not good at all.

I liked that the songs marked the "imagined" sequences. There was no singing in the things that really happened.

I agree it didn't suck, but in addition to not being the movie people wanted, it also wasn't good at the thing it was.

I'd be shocked if it won any razzies given the stiff competition, but that doesn't mean making it was a good idea.

but the movie they needed

Joker 2 might grab the headlines and could win because of its higher profile, but there are some strong contenders and, with a level playing field, Madame Web should sweep up. With Kraven the Hunter also in the running for some awards, Sony might want to take a while pondering their misguided attempt at a Spider-Man-less Spider-Man Universe.

Joker 2 winning anything would be a snub to how terrible Borderlands and Madame Web were. Punish the corporate slop, not the artsy risk that didn't pan out.

i'm convinced that whole thing is a tax fraud. i don't know how specifically, but it's a scam/scheme

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 6 points 6 months ago

Uwe Boll has entered the chat.

There is something about losing the movie rights to the characters if they don't use them within a certain time frame IIRC.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 2 points 6 months ago

oh a hundred percent that's a major factor. but aren't they already getting that from animated spider-man, a property everyone actually likes

[–] Iamsqueegee@sh.itjust.works 12 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I didn’t think Joker 2 was a bad movie. It was well acted and beautifully filmed. It was just a poor sequel to the original and told a story that nobody cared about. I’d almost call it β€œartsy”.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It has very slow segments but I'd agree it was well done mostly, until the end. That ending is the stupidest shit ever. Very disappointing.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 months ago

Oh, good thing I missed that part, then.

"most expensive art film I've paid to see" is what I said to my friends as we left the theater

Of that list, I've only watched Madame Web. It was awful but I did get through it.

I started watching Borderlands and only got through 20 minutes before I shut it off.

I had no interest in any of the rest so I can't speak to their quality.
