Hi everyone! Long time lurker first time poster ๐Ÿ˜…

I've been paying attention to this community for a while now and I've now have my personal data properly stored and backed up. I now want to move onto storing a lot more data (movies, pictures, books etc) so I'll need a better setup than what I have right now.

My current option is a DS1522+ with 5 20TB WD Red drives. This can then be expanded into a 15 array using two DX517.

Thing is, I already have this 15 array goal in mind, and since I want to build a PC for personal use and have a homelab on a secondary machine while speaking with a colleague he suggested that I might be better served using a server rack to keep things more organized and tidy.

While the concept looks really attractive I've been having some trouble finding the parts I might need to build this.

First and foremost having my plan in mind would you go with the pre-built nas and eventually move to the server rack, go straight to the rack or don't use the rack at all?

And in case you would advise for the rack is there any site where I can find a hardware list to compare what I would want/need or for this kind of hardware I better served going directly to the manufacturer page?

Thanks in advance, and if this isn't the best sub for this question could you please point the way to one that might be better?
