My QNAP TS-464 is currently set up as a RAID 10 NAS, about 25TB of storage using 4x 14TB WD Red HDDs.

It's now full, so I need to upgrade, but I've come to realize I don't actually need it to be network-attached. Only one computer uses it, and I'm hoping speeds would be faster via USB (currently reads and writes at about 106 MB/s.)

I'm looking at the QNAP TL-D800C. I know it can be plugged into the 464 as a storage expansion, but my hope is to move my existing drives into it, add 4 new blank ones, and use it as a DAS.

Is it possible to do this while preserving my data and RAID 10 config? Would it make more sense to just use the DAS as an expansion to my existing NAS? I'd be okay with the latter if there's no significant speed boost from converting to DAS.
