wut? Biden just gave a speech full of warnings. I get it's not blocking trump from the presidency, but do we really need to make new shit up to blame them for? Don't we have more than enough real things already?

People bend over backwards to put blame on Biden

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

Correction: People bend over backwards to move blame away from themselves. Anyone in power is just an easy target. It’s why democratic presidents are blamed during times of progress because there’s not enough progress.

Biden absolutely deserves a mountain of blame. Money got him elected over Bernie in the primary, and it's been awful ever since.

They gave plenty of statements of caution before the election, and most of the country simply didn't care. So now we reap what we have sown. We did this to ourselves.

Well.

51% of us did it to everyone else.

[–] elbucho@lemmy.world 18 points 7 months ago

More like almost 70% of us did it to everyone else. 77.3 million people voted for Trump, and about 90 million people just straight up didn't vote. They're to blame as well.

"The People get the politicians they deserve."

I've heard this before.

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I can't even blame them. The right control everything already, including what the vast majority of Americans see.

Let's just pretend if Democrats tried to do something similar to Jan 6. My god you would hear about it every day, 24/7 across all social media platforms, fox news, etc. The megaphone of the right is unmatched. There would be military tribunals Republicans would declare literal war on the traitorous scum.

Ultimately, at this point it boils down to a choice: either abandon the principles of democracy and cling to power, or transfer power peacefully to the next government. Biden and Harris ain't gonna do option 1, nor should they. We should have to face the consequences of our idiotic actions. So, since they're going to peacefully transfer power, at this point, it's all about preserving whatever shreds of their own legacy they've got left. And to whinge and moan at this point would be beneath their dignity.

They lost. They're adults. They're bummed about it, but they're going to keep a stiff upper lip and not degrade themselves.

That might be a poor example, since Palpatine used the attempts on his life as a political weapon. We don’t know how things would have gone if the Jedi explained their actions and garnered support before moving to arrest.

The dark side needs to be negotiated with. We can find common ground!
