Dancer of the Boreal Valley is one of my favourite bosses ever. Her introduction cutscene and overall design is just peak. Creepy and menacing, the veil and the slouchy walk. Badass dual swords. The spin attack.
Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes
This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
[BB] This enemy is so difficult!
or
[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

I love that the spin has a timing to it, so that you can't just spam roll.
On my first play through I went to the Dancer instead of Vordt and proceeded to face plant like 50x into the boss before beating it.
Then turned around and one shot Vordt
Only actually played DS1 and ER, for myself, but among those, for me, Rellana is the peak fight gameplay, and Midra is peak for the whole damn experience.
Gale has to be it for me, he is aggressive and has a lot of flashy attacks but never feels unfair.
I also think adding the cape to make dodge windows tighter was a brilliant move.
Ludwig is a close second but the attack where he drops from the ceiling knocks him down to second place. I find that it is safer to let him hit you than risk the double damage you take while dodging which is just poor design.
As a Elden Ring enjoyer I would say that the meteor shard beast is the best design for their 'larger than human' bosses. But I don't think (based on the gameplay I've seen of the other games) that Elden Ring has very good boss design in general.
Visually cool design or in terms of gameplay? I didn't like the gameplay too much personally.
I think there's definitely cool bosses but some are a little too "filler-y". Like those watchdogs, for example, or these crystal dudes in the tunnels
Both visually and gameplay. I think most bosses are terrible at telegraphing attacks in ER, but this one does a pretty good job. You need to pay attention to both the head and body in different ways that I like.
