Yeah so I am running a home server and I noticed I don't use it at all most of the days so I want to build a solution to turn it on/off when I want from my phone. The goal would be to minimise usage of disk (and therefore hopefully increase its lifespan) and possibly reduce power usage.

Now I have 6tb Seagate expansion HDD drive. It has external power supply. What I want to know is how will it behave if I turn the server off. Will the drive turn off as well? If so, does it prolong its lifespan? If not, is the only way to shut down the disk to manually unplug it? (or use some kind of smartplug, which would be an option, as a last resort).

Thank you for your time and knowledge
