I inherited an old LenovoThinkPad W530 i7-3840QM/K2000M and it has a Panasonic Matshita UJ260 burner from 2012 in it. I’d like to use this machine to back up media such as family photos, GoPro videos, and music, and also back up large data sets. Some items will be unchanging and I’ll want to store those on BD-R, and other items I’ll want to use BD-RE due to occasional updates to the files (e.g., the data sets). I’ve successfully burned a DVD-R and played a Blu-Ray movie so the drive appears to work fine.

I’ve found conflicting information online about the maximum size (layers) Blu-Ray disc I can burn with the UJ260 (it doesn’t have a suffix on the part number like some info I’ve found).

Can anyone confirm the largest capacity BD-R and BD-RE I can use, and are there any recommended media brands that have high success rate for burns (mostly concerned about BD-R here) and longevity?
