I currently own a DS418 that is currently full and will be buying a Dx517 shortly. I am running a hybrid raid 1 for plex and will want to fully utilize the 5th slot on the expansion.

  1. My thought is to buy a SSD for the operating system. This means that one of the storage pools will be split between the two devices. I'm wondering if this is a bad idea or should I just use that 5th slot with no redundancy?
  2. If I do go the route of the SSD is there anything else I should concider aside from backing up my DSM settings?
