My dad burnt a bunch of our camcorder tapes onto Memorex DVD+R discs years ago. They are able to play on a standard, stand-alone DVD player that we have at home.

I recently purchased a DVD player that can connect to my MacBook and Windows PC (LG Ultra Slim Portable DVD Player), and for some reason none of the discs are being read. I know there is something on them, because I’ve used these at my parents house before and I was able to watch it. But for some reason, it keeps getting recognized as a blank DVD on Mac, or E:\ the directory is invalid when I connect it to my PC.

How do I get the data from the DVD onto a laptop so I can digitize it onto a cloud drive? Am I missing something? Do I need to get a VHS and use the original tapes and somehow digitize it from there?

These are a bunch of videos from my childhood, with a lot of my family members in it who have recently passed in the last 4 years. I want to compile these videos and give them to my cousins, but I am running into obstacles.

Currently using a copy of my parents wedding video as test since my dad put it on 2 different discs. Tried it on some others. Was going to use the wedding video first because my mom wanted me to get the file and take the corny wedding music out (Everlasting Love with Lionel Richie) LOL
