hello ! i'm new to all this and i've previously ran jellyfin servers on old laptops, but now i'm looking to run a server off of a dedicated pc. i've decided on a mini pc such as the HP elitedesk, which leaves me just to figure out storage solutions.
id like my build to be upgradable in the future, though i won't need too much space to begin with, maybe a few TB. i'll be using this for 1080p movies & TV, enough storage to set and forget about for a few years but i'd like the ability to upgrade when my time and budget allows.
should i go for a portable external drive or something like this ? https://www.seagate.com/products/nas-drives/ironwolf-hard-drive/?sku=ST10000VN000&prodSrc=ironwolf-nas&use_case=general&gad_source=1 am i able to use a drive like this on it's own through a sata to USB cable without an expensive bay with multiple slots ?
any advice would be appreciated, especially on things like windows vs other OS or hardware capabilities of the mini pc i've chosen.
