Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I encountered Bill Nye on NYE once when I was like 13. He was walking out of a hotel as I was walking in. He looked agitated.

That's the whole story.

Thank you for sharing this traumatic experience from your past. ಥ_ಥ

I met Bill in Boston on a trip to the Science museum in the 90’s. Perhaps we were annoying kids but I will never forget how much of a dickhead he was to everyone in my group including the teacher.

It’s not that hard to be nice to actual fans. We were all excited to get to meet him. Even the teacher agreed that Bill was at best unfriendly.

Fuck you, Bill Nye.

That’s a real shame. They say don’t meet your heros.

It's true. I met my heroine and now I can't quit her. 😣

He was a fav, then fell out of favor as being an ass to everyone. Then he had a comeback, now he’s an ass again.

I’ve heard that he is an absolutely arrogant asshole from several people who I personally know that met him.

Interesting. He had a resurgence of popularity in the ‘10s. Watched some of his new content and remember being surprised by this egotistical, dysregulated old grump on screen, who was in a lot of ways the opposite of the man I watched on PBS as a kid. I kept it to myself but it seems every time I bump into him online it just solidifies that impression. Hope he gets the help he needs to get better.

The end is Nye

Saw him last year, my sister dragged me to one of his climate change talks. Fairly worthless to anyone except children who don't know what's going on yet pretty much. The Q&A section was funny because it was entirely people asking him what they should do about it, and Bill just kinda shrugging with non-answers and irrational optimism. Good talk.

His target audience has always been children... how could you expect anything else?

Would they drop the Bill at midnight? Use some sort of maglev or other science, explain how everything should work, then countdown to "Bill Drops Via Science" at Midnight! If there are multple ways, we have 24ish time zones.

The ball drops at mid-Nye.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Um please don’t Bill.

If you contract him to work at a new years' event for your company or group of friends in exchange of money, you'll receive a Bill Nye NYE bill

I will die on this hill.

[–] TheBananaKing@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

If 2000 didn't get a party called Fun De Siecle, then you don't get this.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

I hope a few bars for queer people had "Y2Gay" parties at least.
