It is crazy how quickly an off-the-cuff remark by an East German bureaucrat galvanized thousands of eager Germans to begin tearing down the walls. This was a country that desperately wanted unity, in the face of foreign forces prying it apart.
Just a shame that they couldn't keep that internationalist energy rolling.
