Today's weather forecast (Melbourne CBD, 3000): min - 16°C, max - 22°C. 25% chance of at least 1mm of rain

Emoji inspiration: I call this part of the year (the time between Boxing Day and New Year's Day) the "never-never times" because some things are open, others are closed, some people are working, a lot not, so fuck all gets done, and if you need anything besides food or groceries, you're basically SOL

Happy International Day of Epidemic Preparedness!

Made it back home safe and sound with Glen 20 and a microwave meal (mostly because although I have easy to do meals, I don't have the energy to do something nutritious... Mostly in it for the low quality veg on the side)

I'm still very nauseous though. No clue if it's something I ate, the smell, the lack of sleep, some kind of toxin or gas or something, or just a combination of everything but I do not feel very well at all

Sorry I've been so self centred recently. I'll try and at the very least being some positivity in over the next few days

E: LL messaged to say somebody will be coming on new years eve afternoon

Robo vacc is out for delivery! They also haven't put it on extra sale for boxing day (same price as when I bought it on the 23rd), so I don't have to feel the nasty buyer's remorse! But I'm checking the tracking constantly like it's a bloody Santa tracker. Partly because Amazon never knock and I don't want it to be stolen (there's nowhere it can be left out of sight from the street), and also partly because last delivery they onboarded at 7:30 and it was delivered at 8:45. This one was onboarded at 7:06 and still isn't here. Not a whinge, just an observation

Finally got through to the somebody about the smell. She doesn't actually know what to do or who to send. She said she'd try to find out what "the solution" is. I'm fairly sure she's about to tell me light up a candle and fucking up into the roof, or just ignore it and hope it fixed itself in a month or however long it takes 🙃

E: they said they'll send pest control at some unspecified time in the future ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

E2: the unspecified time in the future will, in fact, not be today, because: "It will cost us a fortune". As soon as parcel man comes, I'll hop on the bus and go buy some Glen 20, a portable exorcism kit, and anything else Woolies sells that promises odour removal

I am dubbing the robot vacuum "Jason". Because the first thought that went through my mind was "JASON'S HEEEYAHHHH" (reference to this Short). No clue why that was what came to mind, but it's been named

Anyways now that it's here, I can finally go down to the shops

Gonna take the Minipeelers out to spend their Xmas money and gift vouchers. They are a lot keener than I lol. I just want to blob on the couch, but I'll meet their enthusiasm somehow and probably end up enjoying it a little. Have finally almost caught up with the washing this morning so I deserve a little treat (🥃)

Gripe: Unable to get on the tram because morons travelling with their suitcases blocked access to the rear of the tram. 🤬

Edit: Well colour me uninformed. Apparently this is a regular occurrence in the holiday season. Next tram included 2 people in their 20s taking up 2 seats with ALL their luggage. Not to mention the others. No thoughts for catching Uber, a taxi or other?

[–] Baku@aussie.zone 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I bump into their suitcases when they do that 🙂

Another house inspection, another NO. If I were to be buying that as an investment property I'd be especially unimpressed with the disconnected smoke alarms and the person living in the garage.

Saw someone getting kicked out of Kmart today. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something about the role of a security guard, because it really seemed like it was mostly the manager and a few staff members doing the kicking out while security dude was just standing in the corner looking slightly frightened. I mean, I wouldn't expect them to be dragging someone out by the hair while simultaneously suffering 3 dozen stab wounds, but if they can't even handle kicking out what looked to be a fairly passive, maybe 4 and a half foot tall girl, I don't really understand what they actually do

Visual deterrent, more or less.

One of those things where you put your pills so you don't accidentally take too many?

My zucchinis are officially being dipshits.

I have like 13 male flowers in the fridge, the female flowers seem to have died before blossoming and the upcoming ones are still in infancy. One fruit I thought was fertilised rotted off. So between 4 plants there’s one healthy developing fruit which I hand pollinated myself.

The pumpkins can help pollinate them when they get bigger because they’re both cucurbits but I kind of don’t want to cross pollinate because there might be a higher chance of them turning bitter and toxic.

The tomatoes are bushing out and flowering but I’m wondering if it’s too early and a result of stress. I’ve planted everything so late.

it's ok, the growing season here is long

with my chillies i get about 1 fruit in every 3 flowers but I keep feeding them so the flowers keep coming

Started watching La Palma and also Squid Game s2 yesterday, more interested in La Palma after 1 ep actually!

[–] Baku@aussie.zone 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I started watching the wrong side of the tracks yesterday. I thought it was alright. Don't think I'll watch e2 though because something about dubbing just always puts me off. I could watch it with original audio in español and read subtitles, but each episode is like an hour and 15 mins long... Not sure I can read for that long haha

Against better judgement I’ve gone out grocery shopping so I don’t have to do it super early tomorrow as I want to watch the Test match.

It’s actually pretty here now, a lot more quiet than I was expecting.

The grow bags arrived. I opened one up and it’s hooge. Potting mix is cheap but not at the amount I’d have to buy… gonna have to make some choices.

I wish I had a proper big vegie garden and the ability to do heavier work

Steve Smith got his century!

[–] Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone 4 points 7 months ago

I finally watched La Femme Nikita. Probably has to be one the few times I haven’t preferred the original.

Ended up just kinda skipping sleep. Too hot. I was getting annoyed at not being able to doze off, so I said "ah fuck ya then" and decided to do some tidying up

The temperature inside has dropped down to 24.3°, having dropped down 7.5° from its peak of 31.8° at 21:00 yesterday. 3 windows wide open. 2 fans running at max speed. That averages out to about a 0.8° drop in indoor temperature per hour, if I did my math right. It is currently 16.7° outside

more morbidly,I'm wondering if I should hop in the shower now while it's the coldest it'll be today, rather than wait until it heats up again and whatever's in the roof starts stinking the place up again. I'm not sure it will be any better or not (I don't dare open that door until I have to)

E:The bathroom still absolutely fucking reeks. Enough to make me feel sick. But it's not quite as bad as yesterday. I sprayed some lavender air wick in there, not that that's gonna do much. Gonna let it settle for 5 then go t as ke the quickest shower I can make work, and hope magots don't fall out of the fan hole and onto my head

E2:Shower complete. I really feel sick now. I'm still worried about it clinging to me and my clothes. Not much I can do about it clinging to me, but I ended up getting dressed in my room instead to hopefully stop it infusing into my clothes. Now, my toothbrush is still in that bathroom. I don't care how germs and bacteria work, that thing is going in the fucking bin when all is said and done. I don't care that it's probably irrational and could probably be sanitized with a quick dip in mouthwash - I am not putting that thing anywhere near my mouth ever again
