Don't ruin the elites good thing
We had a long run of very good relations with China and, due to their sheer capacity for steel production, we could never compete on price.
But when you throw in almost free electricity to the mix (with current solar prices) and geopolitical concerns, maybe this makes more sense now.
Hopefully it does, well, these things kinda have to work now. For the reasons you outlined. I don't think the government lets go of this one. If its only issue is its not commercial, i can see that being a cost we're, (through the government), now willing to pay.
If that happens, they better take over ownership, at least Joint Venture. No more handouts to private businesses without a clear public line of compensation.
So this could be a good project.
I think the key to it being lower carbon emissions will be if there is a regime of thorough and ongoing leakage assessment.
If this isn't done, you can forget about it being lower emissions. They have a significant leak and the Methane will be more damaging than the co2 would have been.
Oh look! A flock of pigs!
