1. Server Main Rules

The main rules of the server will be enforced stringently. https://lemmy.world/

2. No spam or reposts + limit off topic comments

Spamming posts will be removed. Reposts will be removed with the exception of a repost becoming the main hub for discussion on that topic.

Off topic comments that do not pertain to the post at hand may be removed if it is deemed they contribute nothing and/or foster hostility at users. This mostly applies to political and religious debate, but can be applied to other things at the mod’s discretion.

3. Post must have Antiwork/ Work Reform explicitly involved

Post must have Antiwork/Work Reform explicitly involved in some capacity. This can be talking about antiwork, work reform, laws, and ext.

4. Educate don’t attack

No mocking, demeaning, flamebaiting, purposeful antagonizing, trolling, hateful language, false accusation or allegation, or backseat moderating is allowed. Don’t resort to ad hominem attacks against another user or insult other people, examples of violations would be going after the person rather than the stance they take.

If we feel the comment is uncalled for we will remove it. Stay civil and there won’t be problems.

5. No Advertising

Under no circumstance are you allowed to promote or advertise any product or service

6. No factually misleading information

Content that makes claims or implications that can be proven false or misleading will be removed.

7. Headlines

If the title of the post isn’t an original title of the article then the first thing in the body of the post should be an original title written in this format “Original title: {title here}”.

8. Staff Discretion

Staff can take disciplinary action on offenses not listed in the rules when a community member's actions or general conduct creates a negative experience for another player and/or the community.

It is impossible to list every example or variation of the rules. It is also impossible to word everything perfectly. Players are expected to understand the intent of the rules and not attempt to "toe the line" or use loopholes to get around the intent of the rule.

9. No posting links to Twitter/X or Meta owned properties

Social Media products such as Twitter/X and Meta Properties (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Threads) are known low quality information sources - they actively spread misinformation without sufficient moderation, hate speech. These platforms each have billionaire owners working actively to eliminate labor protections through direct action, lobbying, performative large scale layoffs and attacks on institutions that enforce labor law.

You are not encouraged to do so, but you may post screenshots from these sites IF THE INFORMATION IS NOT AVAILABLE ON ANOTHER VALID PLATFORM. Screenshots must include info to support a relevant conversation within this community and must show a VISIBLE time/date stamp for posterity. If you are caught manipulating content of a screenshot, your post will be removed and you will receive an indefinite ban from this community at the discretion of the moderator(s)

No pass through/archive services are allowed as they potentially feed traffic back to these services, directly or indirectly (e.g. Services like Xcancel or Nitter)

Clearly, being a woman is a pre-existing condition.

ಠ_ಠ

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 63 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Things like pregnancy or being a domestic violence victim were considered valid preexisting conditions until they passed Obamacare

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 14 points 9 months ago

Republicans: “A woman’s job in life is to be pregnant.”

Public: “Ok so you’ll offer support for them, yea?”

Republicans: “Absolutely fucking not lol”

[–] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 19 points 9 months ago (2 children)

How long until Americans make being alive a pre-existing condition

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 11 points 9 months ago

Technically it is.

I'm not saying that should negate any coverage that you are otherwise entitled to.... Just that living is the root cause of many issues.

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

I'll try and get a cure for it first.

B-but if we had universal health care we would lose all our FrEeDoM!!1! /edit: left out "if"

That's technically better than what we have now. All we get is a single jackass deciding whether we die or not.

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 16 points 9 months ago

Worse, we have buggy hallucinating AI.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 10 points 9 months ago

I mean, a Death Panel would have to actually stop and think about the life they're going to snuff out instead of just going "Can you just die? Our share holders would really appreciate it? No? Eh, I wasn't really asking anyway.."

[–] InputZero@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

At least medically assisted death panels have licensed Doctors on them, and they're discussing at the patients request. They are not deciding who lives and who dies, just whether or not offering medically assisted death is appropriate for the patient requesting it. Instead of a broken AI just returning 'coverage denied' all day.

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 2 points 9 months ago

Meanwhile, Canada has the MAIDS program, with patients being often asked if they need help to kys over some minor, easily solved medical issue.

  1. Rape kits aren't free? I figured that because it was a response to a criminal action it counted as more legal than medical... guess you learn something new every day...

  2. BEING RAPED IS A FUCKING ELECTIVE PROCEDURE!?!?! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW!?!?!

[–] HearTwoTalk@lemmy.world 34 points 9 months ago (1 children)

When I applied for a driver's license in Texas, they had a list of things that I could choose to pay extra for, one of which was donating money towards testing rape kits. It still infuriates that they tried to pass that off of random people.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 20 points 9 months ago (2 children)

One of the biggest scams the American Government ever pulled, was claiming that its responsibilities were actually that of the citizens, and that anyone who expects the Government to do anything but wield an iron fist is a "Whiny snowflake looking for a free lunch"

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That's just a symptom of the actual greatest scam: making people think the government should be a "them" instead of an "us."

Its responsibilities are those of the citizens. That's why the government exists: to regulate, pay for, and administrate those responsibilities.

[–] phx@lemmy.ca 3 points 9 months ago

That's why they exist in theory. In practice they serve a social class that's very much not "us" except for lip service

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Those whiny snow flakes would really fuckin appreciate it if you called them by their proper names, billionaires.

[–] Kitathalla@lemy.lol 9 points 9 months ago

I'm not sure how old the image is, but I know many states (since this shit only happens in one place, it seems) have made laws requiring rape kits to be paid for by the police, even if you don't want a report. I don't exactly remember how it works, but you do have to report the crime to the police, so the hospital paperwork gets handled, but you don't have to have suffer through the interview of a detective or the DA's office.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 66 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Brian got off easy, yikes.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 55 points 9 months ago (1 children)

He was basically euthanized by comparison to what he and his company did to people.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 12 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Euthanasia could possibly even be more painful than a well aimed gunshot to the head

[–] kitnaht@lemmy.world 58 points 9 months ago (1 children)

He was just the face of the operation - there's a whole board of directors.

[–] Olgratin_Magmatoe@lemmy.world 35 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Plenty more room for adjustments

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 months ago

Lots of room for ammunition too.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 37 points 9 months ago

Holy shit, what a fucking nightmare

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 34 points 9 months ago

If wishes alone could kill, there wouldn't be a single health insurance executive alive within 24 hours.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 27 points 9 months ago

Should have gone with the Jane Doe,

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 7 points 9 months ago

"Brian Thompson was never satisfied with the Status Quo."

Yeah clearly he wanted something closer to Handmaiden's Tale

[–] Kalysta@lemm.ee 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Fuck UHC. I hope you’re doing better. If so consider getting a lawyer and/or going to the newspaper if you think you can do it.

No one should have to pay for that. No one.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

Not me but thank you, some poor soul I saw on Bluesky.
