Now this is vigilantism I can get behind.

Although it would be funnier if they hadn't pied themselves and had pied a real CEO.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 100 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Purely performative. Got it.

The UK has a long tradition of pieing awful politicians - and guess what? It gets a laugh and memable pictures, but changes nothing.

[–] b3an@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

John Prescott looked like he deserved it xD

UHC CEO gets assassinated. Policies unchanged.

I keep saying this- you cannot assassinate your way into companies putting people over profits. They're legally required to do the opposite.

UHC rates will continue to rise and they will continue to deny people. CEOs are just as replaceable as every other employee in a corporation.

So you might as well throw pies in their faces and laugh at them because this is not how you solve systemic issues.

And I assume a bunch of you will be pissed off at me for saying so again, but you'll be in for a rude awakening when your insurance premium goes up and Trump decides to bring back denying for pre-existing conditions.

[–] FabioTheNewOrder@lemmy.world 11 points 7 months ago (4 children)

Blue shield policy on anesthesia was changed the day after the assassination.

Policies have been changed and no pie was involved

Are you expecting some local neceomancer to raise Ken Lay just for a practical joke? Because I was...

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Oh you wouldn't need to raise him from the dead. Just digging him up would be fine.

[–] modifier@lemmy.ca 5 points 7 months ago

He's just Laying there after all.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 7 months ago

Seems like the last vigilante would get behind too.

Lame. PR stunt.

Do it to a real CEO, and ditch the pie.

[–] WhatThaFudge@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 7 months ago

To be fair.. Not everyone is willing to risk it all and straight murder people, but still want to show their dissatsifaction with the system.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Before the UnitedHealthcare CEO assasination, it would've been. Now it's not.

Before, it would've had the message of maybe "we think a pie in the face and some public humiliation might make you fix your ways".

Now though?

Now the message it sends is "this could've been your public execution, and the world would've cheered."

[–] dutchkimble@lemy.lol 2 points 7 months ago

So just hand on face then?

[–] rideacow@feddit.uk 1 points 7 months ago

Just like you are?

[–] Cephalotrocity@biglemmowski.win 67 points 7 months ago (1 children)

A satirical Enron, so was the pie a planned part of the art or was it a legit attack by someone not in on the joke?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 20 points 7 months ago

It was planned. But still quite funny.

[–] synae@lemmy.sdf.org 58 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That's pretty lame. There's way better things to do with CEOs in new york

[–] PM_Your_Nudes_Please@lemmy.world 56 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

I think part of the point is just to show that they can be touched. It would be like walking up and saying “bang bang” with finger guns instead of actually shooting them. It’s a way of going “I could have done it. You’d be dead if I wanted it. This is a reminder and a warning that you only rule because the plebs allow it.”

I agree, there are better things to do to CEOs, especially for companies as shitty as Enron. But if CEOs are on high alert like they are now, then a pie to the face would be a good way of keeping them anxious. It would tell them “your security failed. They need to succeed every time, but the masses only need to succeed once.”

I feel like this "CEO" and "birds aren't real" guy is just a self-promoter of the Jake Paul type, or like the guy who started "BumFights."

We finally have something going on that could really be a focus on the evils of corporate corruption, and there's some self-promoting manipulator who jumps aboard as quickly as possible to get some screen time.

It's really disgusting.

[–] Magnetic_dud@discuss.tchncs.de 38 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Staged for free advertising? It makes no sense for someone to attack a nobody, that "Enron CEO" is a title that has been given by himself.

[–] frezik@midwest.social 10 points 7 months ago

Satirical company, so yes, that's all it is and nothing more.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 31 points 7 months ago

I bet he was pissed but when he got home he felt quite lucky that was all it was.

[–] CurlyWurlies4All@slrpnk.net 29 points 7 months ago (1 children)

They're bringing back Enron? Who's fucking idea was that?

[–] ChairmanMeow@programming.dev 16 points 7 months ago

It's a satirical company.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.world 25 points 7 months ago

This is literally all publicity stunts.

[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 20 points 7 months ago

The new Enron might be a satire on crypto but it's more likely just another crypto grift

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 20 points 7 months ago

satirical project on the relaunch of the energy company Enron

[–] Sharpiemarker@startrek.website 19 points 7 months ago

Was he pied by Bernie Sanders?

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 13 points 7 months ago (2 children)
[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.world 18 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I thought presidents get shoes

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 5 points 7 months ago

It is tradition, after all

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 11 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Ideally with something denser and faster than a pie.

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

For sure. I’d settle for the pie though since he’s apparently so afraid of it.

[–] regdog@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago

Everything about this is lame.
