I'm looking for 500gb-1tb because I'm running out of space. And I don't need much speed because it will only be used for storage. What would be a solid choice? (hopefully under a hundred)

Are there any tests I should be running after installing a new SSD before just transferring all my files to it?

Would you recommend a portable SSD as backup? I'm not in a position to be making off site backups (I move all the time), and cloud seems expensive(?) when it's like $5 a month and my intel card has lasted years. Maybe I just need to suck it up and pay cloud, but I hate monthly subscriptions.

I know I'm basically asking for you guys to help me with my grocery list, but I'd really appreciate the help.
