Historical Artifacts
Just a community for everyone to share artifacts, reconstructions, or replicas for the historically-inclined to admire!
Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.
Generally speaking, ruins should go to !historyruins@lemmy.world
Illustrations of the past should go to !historyillustrations@lemmy.world
Photos of the past should go to !HistoryPorn@lemmy.world
It's kind of creepy to think that an ankle once passed through here. Given the size of this, it's very unlikely that it was opened/closed to remove it from the ancle. This means that the bone either rotted away or was broken at some point.
I mean, the gap looks like it just pries open. I've seen other copper alloy jewelry like that.
If the hole in the middle can fit an ancle, it's 3-4" big. Eyeballing the brass means the ring itself is probably 1" thick. It would be difficult to get it on and off, so I suspect it simply stayed on.
