I'm in the middle of an emotional breakdown. I haven't been properly medicated or had effective therapy in almost a year because of not having insurance. I had gotten a job last September and moved to a different state, so lost my state sponsored insurance, and wasn't there long enough to get insurance. It took me until last month to find another job and I've moved to yet another state for it. This is all to say that I've been under a lot of stress, my anxiety high, and depression pretty bad since I lost my insurance. On Thursday my anxiety went higher than it has in years and has not come down. I have no support network. I'm not looking for advice. Just some kind words.

Half an hour in nature has been proven to improve the mood so maybe visit a park or something. Also physical exercise can be helpful as well.

I'm so sorry you're hurting. It's absolutely heartbreaking that we can't get proper healthcare without insurance. You deserve care, comfort, and peace - and you shouldn't have to jump through hoops to access basic mental health care. Yet here we are, it's cruel.

High anxiety is awful, it can ruin your whole day by making you hypervigilant and just sick to your stomach. It must have been really hard to stay that heightened since Thursday. You're probably exhausted after running on adrenaline and cortisol for 3 days straight. My heart really goes out to you. Hang in there.

I know you didn't ask for advice, but this is more of a resource - you can get more affordable therapy ($40-70 per hour) from Open Path Collective (you pay a one-time fee of $60 and then get lifetime access to all of their therapists - you can look at therapists and talk to them about fit without paying this fee first. It's a wonderful service that makes therapy accessible).

Please let me know if I can help you out with some other online resources, maybe in your state. I'm a therapist, and I also have mental conditions, so I understand the pain and might have access to stuff other folks don't.

Many hugs to you.

Thank you so much for the therapy suggestion. I've been using BetterHelp since September, but my experience on there has been less than great. I'm in Louisiana at the moment, so if you know of any resources here, please let me know.

Oof, I hear bad things about Better Help all the time. Unfortunately, it's one of the few affordable options out there for many people. I definitely recommend checking out Open Path Collective. Here's a list of a bunch of other therapy directories. You can definitely find someone who does sliding scale, especially with virtual therapy.

I can also recommend doing this self-compassion workbook. Out of all the workbooks I have, this is a favorite. I've seen it make a big difference.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if shit gets tough or if you need any other resources.
