Summary

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning adoption of Russian children by citizens of countries where gender transition is legal, targeting at least 15 nations.

Additional legislation prohibits promoting child-free lifestyles, with fines up to $50,000, framing such views as part of Western efforts to weaken Russia.

These measures align with Putin’s push for “traditional values” amid population decline, including past bans on LGBTQ+ information and gender-transition procedures.

Critics view these moves as part of a broader crackdown on liberal ideologies and dissent, intensified since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Strange, the overlap between the political obsessions of Russia, and those of Conservatives in the United States. It's almost as if one controls the information consumed by the other....

And also the UK and Australia specifically in reverse order chronologically. Who could possibly be responsible for such a network?

Hear me out Putin, but what if you didn't toss everyone who can fog a mirror into your meat grinder of a war? No? Wait why do you want me to stand near the window?

It’s so they have more people to put into the meat grinder.

Ukraine isn’t the end game for Russia.

Ukraine isn’t the end game for Russia

Not intentionally.

What a pointlessly cruel thing to do to children.

[–] Hellinabucket@lemmy.world 32 points 8 months ago

Have to keep them home to repopulate the meat grinder.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 28 points 8 months ago

The children they stole from Ukraine in one of their many war crimes?

"Are the western efforts in the room with us right now?"

It's a non-issue being used to further sow division in neighbor countries. Don't take the bait

[–] fluxion@lemmy.world 16 points 8 months ago (1 children)

No it's a cover for the real agenda of banning anyone suggesting it's okay for women to not be breeding stock for future cannon-fodder for Putin to use for his absurd imperial obsessions

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 14 points 8 months ago

It’s only a non-issue because they already have other bans in place (at least on Americans). It will probably decrease Russian adoptions though

I’d also argue that a ban on speech is an issue

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 18 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Gotta keep enough meat for the grinder I guess? Can't see any other rationale.

Russin orthodox church is Putins tool, but you sometimes need to skratch the other back.

[–] whithom@discuss.online 15 points 8 months ago (1 children)

They’re probably bugged anyway

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago

Need more soldiers right?!

[–] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 7 points 8 months ago

I guess I didn't expect this move but it's the least surprising thing ever. Russia is about as forward thinking as Texas.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

So... Now he's saying there will be gays in Russia? He seems confused these days.
