Comic panels taken out of comics so we can make fun of them!! We love the golden age stuff!

Rules:

  1. Comics must come from actual comic books. No AI or Photoshops.

  2. Single panels are preferred.

  3. Comics should be unintentionally funny. Spider-man cracking wise is not what this is about.

  4. Don't be a dick.

  5. I can't believe I've had to add this... NO RACISM.

Can we talk about that foot?

[–] SpicyLizards@reddthat.com 2 points 9 months ago

Probably been too close to those atom weapons

[–] superkret@feddit.org 15 points 9 months ago (2 children)

There's absolutely no way this can go wrong.

At that point you might as well go with the Japanese lunge mine design. If a nuke is gonna go off in my general vicinity I'd want to be as close as possible.

It doesn't have to be a bomb. It could be like a demon core. The tank drivers get a blast of gamma but it's a very small lethal radius.

The bow is actually a better delivery mechanism than a RPG. It's slow enough that there is time for the caveman to duck under cover.

Except it's going to go straight down with the weight. Makes more sense to launch via slingshot.

It already violates the size requirements of any atomic weapon we know of (minimum mass for criticality also defines minimum size) so it could be hollow and weigh very little.

He needs a fridge to hide in.

[–] superkret@feddit.org 3 points 9 months ago

Did Mythbusters ever fact-check this?

I love settings like this. The tribal mixed with the atomic. Its so cool to me.

You would probably really enjoy Heavy Metal Magazine. Especially the stuff by Moebius. It's a French sci-fi comic magazine the 80's animated movie was based on.

I don't think they make it anymore but there's plenty of back issues to read. A few have been scanned in and put on the Internet Archive and I wouldn't be surprised if you could find more by sailing the high seas.

This is all going so well with my current play through of Caves of Qud, and my planning for a Gamma World campaign. Thank you so much, I plan on descending into these waters and not emerging for a while.

What's a good trick to getting into Qud? I have it but can't seem to stick with it.

Remind me of the prototype weapon "the davy crocket" it was a concept weapon which would be used by field units preferably mounted to a willys jeep. Which would launch a football sized nuclear warhead.

It never saw deployment because of multi reasons which include

-- it didnt shoot far enough to get the launchers out of explosion range

-- there was alot scrutiny in the 50s over nuclear bombs.

-- it was heavy as fuck

Lots of people says the fallout series of games took heavy inspiration fron the davy crocket to make the fatman

I've read about it before. There's even photos.

If you want to apply the phrase "derp" to atomic weaponry, there you go.

[–] Steamymoomilk@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 months ago

Ha thats pretty funny. silly 50's military thinking they can strap the power of a small sun to tripod thanks for the photo :D

A civilized weapon for a more civilized age.

Reminds me of a pulp book I read where they go to Mars and just need to wear parkas to survive the surface

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago

I remember reading as a kid in the 80s. That you could survive on Mars with a heavy coat and a respirator. Like not in some old pulp book, in a contemporary book for kids.

No wonder my ancestors got overpowered so easily ... why didn't they think of this before!

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

On the other hand, shooting atomic weapons at that close a range while defending their own land might have been just as bad.

Actshualy 🤓🤓🤓 it's called Knapping.

Yes I play (addicted really) Vintage Story, how did you know?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

I know, I've even done it (badly), but most people don't know that word.
