Fred Hampton, deputy chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, was born on August 30, 1948 and raised in the Chicago suburb of Maywood, Illinois. In high school he excelled in academics and athletics. After Hampton graduated from high school, he enrolled in a pre-law program at Triton Junior College in River Grove, Illinois. Hampton also became involved in the civil rights movement, joining his local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). His dynamic leadership and organizational skills in the branch enabled him to rise to the position of Youth Council President. Hampton mobilized a racially integrated group of five hundred young people who successfully lobbied city officials to create better academic services and recreational facilities for African American children.

In 1968, Hampton joined the Black Panther Party (BPP), headquartered in Oakland, California. Using his NAACP experience, he soon headed the Chicago chapter. During his brief BPP tenure, Hampton formed a “Rainbow Coalition” which included Students for a Democratic Society, the Blackstone Rangers, a street gang and the National Young Lords, a Puerto Rican organization. Hampton was also successful in negotiating a gang truce on local television.

In an effort to neutralize the Chicago BPP, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Chicago Police Department placed the chapter under heavy surveillance and conducted several harassment campaigns. In 1969, several BPP members and police officers were either injured or killed in shootouts, and over one hundred local members of the BPP were arrested.

During an early morning police raid of the BPP headquarters at 2337 W. Monroe Street on December 4, 1969, twelve officers opened fire, killing the 21-year-old Hampton and Peoria, Illinois Panther leader Mark Clark. Police also seriously wounded four other Panther members. Many in the Chicago African American community were outraged over the raid and what they saw as the unnecessary deaths of Hampton and Clark. Over 5,000 people attended Hampton’s funeral where Reverends Ralph Abernathy and Jesse Jackson of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference eulogized the slain activist. Years later, law enforcement officials admitted wrongdoing in the killing of Hampton and Clark. In 1990, and later in 2004, the Chicago City Council passed resolutions commemorating December 4 as Fred Hampton Day.

A sorta friend made a comment earlier that’s really been in my kitchen. I said in a group chat I hate managing people in my job (I was not given a choice, was basically conscripted into being a manager). I was just venting, but this guy responds with “well if you don’t like it just get demoted down to an entry level position”.

Bugs me for two reasons. One is that no, I don’t have to go to an entry level position, I’ve been in this job for 15+ years. I just want the job I signed up for, which did not involving managing people. Maybe because I know him, just sounded to me like “hurrr if you don’t want to work hard just do something easy that you were doing 15 years ago”.

But the other part that really bugs me, and I’ve buried the lede here some, is that this sorta friend is a literal capitalist. He got hired into the family business his dad owns and was always expected to take it over. Now that he’s in charge of a business he acts like he’s hot shit. But if his dad wasn’t a capitalist this dude isn’t particularly sharp or hard working, he would not be in his position otherwise. So I really don’t want to hear any “job advice” from him.

I'm currently watching the 1996 BBC film adaptation of Twelfth Night, which is rocking my world, because I'm high as fuck on my couch, wearing literally only a black PU leather thong and doc martens, and vividly fantasizing about how I'd want to top Viola and Sebastian simultaneously, regardless of their guise of the moment.

Edit: Masc-mode Viola really does it for me.

I watched a bunch of Nier lore videos and I am obsessed with it now. Not just because of philosophical quandries or being questioned on the meaning of existence, but the prospect and envisioning a world without humanity is causing a morbid and terrifying curiosity of what life, Earth, or the meaning of existence would look like millenia from now.

Also, I like the creative aspect of having the Gestalts of the Nier world be living spirits of people.

Trying to balance this desire to be responsible and save money but also feeling anxious because I've been poor my entire life so I don't want to feel the way it felt to be poor and spending money makes that anxiety go away.

It's surprising that python doesn't seem to support piping in a natural way considering it's functions as a terminal a lot of the time. I know you kind of can by chaining methods or stuff like map, reduce, apply, but I haven't seen anything about piping.

Doesn't help that the wide usage in ML and data analytics means trying to google it just gives info on data pipelines lol

Just got back from urgent care. I ended up getting stitches. Thankfully I didn't cut to the bone or anything, just through the skin and fat. It really fucking hurts though when i move it.

I had to go to urgent care TWICE because the first one, the guy at the desk asked how I was doing and I said "fine until I cut myself at work" and he said I HAD to do a worker's comp claim and he couldn't admit me otherwise and couldn't just pretend he didn't hear that because his boss was there. So i went and had a breakdown in the parking lot because i didn't know what to do. If they drug test for workers comp then they'll see i smoke weed and idk fire me. And he said they do a drug test with every worker's comp admission.

He was super nice though and came out into the parking lot, first to ask what my boss said (i said id call him, i called my gf instead and sobbed over the phone) and then he comforted me and gave me advice. Or tried to, he suggested the ER which would have probably bankrupted me. I went to another and just said i cut myself in the kitchen at home and they fixed me up.

But now it fucking hurts. I can't move it without pain. I don't know how I'm going to be able to work, like it's my non dominant hand but i still use it for a lot and EVERY grasping or gripping motion is so painful. It is going to slow me down, and i already feel like I work too fucking slowly. I work as fast as I can and it still took me like an hour and a half to slice two gallons each of onions and bell peppers.

So I'm going to have to tell the chef that unfortunately I'll be even slower now. And if he makes me do workers comp bullshit idk what's going to happen since I smoke weed.
