While I don‘t like these people, the thesis of the author is rather dumb imho. Basically he says they were idiotic intellectuals because they didn’t go to war like their predecessors, glorifying war as something that makes men good leaders.

I didn’t read that as glorifying war, rather as a contact point of privileged young man with real world consequences of actions. War was that contact point for previous privileged young men, but any other would also serve.

However, these Brexit gamers had none such contact at all. They remain untouched from the consequences of their actions.
