Any recommendation what HDDs, possibly directly USB HDDs, to get for offline storage?

I want to do occasional backups, plugging it into the NAS, copying/adding the new data, and putting it on the shelf. It's almost always adding data, rarely changing anything.

The disks will run only for the backups and maybe (hopefully never) to get the data back in case of failure of the NAS.

Most data around live expectancy of HDDs seems to be about permanent usage, but i suppose such cold starts every few months are a completely different usage profile. Anything to be aware of here?

Or is there anything better these days? I'm looking to back up around 1 TB of new data per month, ideally somewhat cost effective and without too much work.
