Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.
  • Β

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

Notice the lack of people at the bottom

    [–] bizzle@lemmy.world 73 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Honestly though, maybe this is unpopular, whatever, I'm glad there aren't as many people here that's why I like it.

    [–] linearchaos@lemmy.world 20 points 10 months ago (1 children)

We have no lack of good people, I dare say we have more good people on any one of those services then the entirety of the top pane.

    [–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 20 points 10 months ago (1 children)

We have the best people. All the geniuses say were the best. They have the worst people. It’s not even a match.

    [–] linearchaos@lemmy.world 17 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Slightly different here, when Reddit put the writing on the wall, The people with the lowest tolerance for bullshit left. The signal to noise ratio over there went way up. As the quality dropped off, we saw more waves of people coming this way.

Basically, the people that are left over there are kind of willingly swimming in filth. It's a filtering event really. Even including the bots, tankies, whatever this is, it's far less toxic over here on a thread to thread community to community basis.

    [–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 9 points 10 months ago

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly, I just saw an opportunity for an en passant joke and couldn’t pass it.

Yes, 2015 was a wild year.

Lack of people is genuinely nice for now as Lemmy is still lacking moderation features

    [–] Valmond@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

I got a post removed by automod today, on lemmy.world/c/meme

I have no idea what post it was.

    [–] potentiallynotfelix@lemmy.fish 6 points 10 months ago

Theres way more helpful people here. It's a gamble if you'll ever get a reply when asking for help on reddit, but here it's almost guaranteed.

That frog is associated with 4chan more than any of the sites pictured.

    [–] lvxferre@mander.xyz 35 points 10 months ago (2 children)

And yet if you post it in 4chan expect at least some Anons telling you that you're a "dumb frogposter".

    [–] 9point6@lemmy.world 53 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Post anything on 4chan and expect insults

    [–] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Everything on 4chan is a lie, per 4chan

    [–] Lemmynated@lemmy.zip 50 points 10 months ago

You can post anything on 4chan and get insulted for it, that’s why it’s called 4chan because you’re un4chanate enough to be on it.

    [–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It's like 90% of discord emotes

    [–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 4 points 10 months ago

    And Twitch.

    [–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.melroy.org 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

What do we do, go back to ragecomics and lolcats? Or does 4chan own those too?

    [–] DerisionConsulting@lemmy.ca 13 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I think most people just don't use pepe.

    [–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

Theres a chance ipad babies growing up with Twitch outnumber us educated folks.

    [–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 50 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Not hearing the kind stranger line for over a year now has been wonderful.

    [–] somebodysomewhere@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

thanks for pointing that out kind stranger

    [–] photonic_sorcerer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 10 months ago (8 children)

The fediverse is still being monitored, though... Everything we comment and post here is freely available to anyone interested for any purpose.

    [–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 22 points 10 months ago (1 children)

    That's how public websites work...

    [–] photonic_sorcerer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I just wanted to point it out. There should be a CCTV camera in the bottom pic too.

    [–] oldfart@lemm.ee 7 points 10 months ago (2 children)

You're not forced to link your account with your real identity in fedi.

    [–] Pacmanlives@lemmy.world 20 points 10 months ago

This is a weird neckbeard meme

    [–] leftist_lawyer@lemmy.today 18 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Any time I see pepe the frog ... I think "twat with pimples and zero life masturbating to pics of Elon."

    [–] riodoro1@lemmy.world 33 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Pepe has been around when elon was still posing in a coat in front of a liberty sign.

    [–] thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago (3 children)

and the swastika is ancient. that doesn't mean people using it in the West aren't usually dickheads.

    [–] riodoro1@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago (3 children)

D.. did you just compare pepe to a swastika?

    Is everything ok?

    [–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

Seems like an apt comparison to me. The frog has been used by hard right extremist groups almost religiously, I say let it croak.

    [–] thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

yes, i did. and no, things are not ok. there's way too many outright Nazis and they love this stupid frog

Pepe might as well be Lemmy face now as widespread as it is. I see him used on steam profiles and Facebook friends who have zero connection to conservative anything. They just think he's cute and usable in millions of ways.

    He is, admittedly.

    [–] Jagger@lemmy.zip 17 points 10 months ago

What a lovely place is builded in the Fediverse

    [–] nandi@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago (4 children)

Dunno who frog posts more; Nazis or people larping as Nazis for the lulz

    [–] Derp@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

can't we all just enjoy the frog without associating it with any politics
