Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Outside of Cincinnati and noticed I had no service around 11am. Started checking around ant it seems it's pretty widespread.

Verizon should prorate the bills of all people who have lost coverage during their screw-up. I just paid my bill today and this pisses me off.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah yes, a prorated $3 credit at best. Based on a $90 service bill divided by 30 days.

Most likely they'll instead give you a coupon for something in a Verizon-owned app you don't use, if anything.

Of course. And if it’s the other way around and a normal person misses a bill by a few days, they’re charged late fees.

Haven't used Verizon personally, but back in the day Sprint gave a 10 day grace period before charging late fees, even if the documentation said differently at times.

"Can you hear me now?"

No. No you cannot.

It has been out here in Kansas for close to 3 hours.

I have weirdly had zero issues on Verizon today. Android (samsung) also Ohio.

[–] Flying_Hellfish@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Of the 6 people I've talked to today with Verizon service in my area, 1 person has the SOS/No bars on their phone. The last couple of outages, that was me so I know how they feel

[–] Kit@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Seems like only iPhones are impacted? Totally fine in my area on Android and all of my neighbors have SOS.

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

No issues reported by my circle of Apple folks on Verizon, could be in cascading waves or spotting effects on some users but not others

[–] CmdrShepard42@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

It's not just Ohio. I'm on the west coast and the outage is happening here too.

[–] CatsGoMOW@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Welp, guess that explains why mine has been in SOS basically all day so far.

Ya, I went for a walk and had my phone/ear buds in and as soon as I got away from the house it stopped working. Tried toggling airplane mode, and rebooting, no luck. When I got back I had a msg from my wife asking if I'd changed our verizon service.

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Changed the service? No

Changing things in life? Yes. On a side note honey, you are off the service plan. Also we are getting a divorce.

Weird part is that mine is SOS at home, but my wife’s phone seems fine at work ~20 miles from here. Not sure if it’s because the cell tower(s) there are unaffected or if it is because our phones are different models.

they suck so bad around here the last couple years, it'd be hard to tell if it's a 'widespread' outage or just the local 'norm'. (ours is working right now, but an hour east of here it's not).

Outage affecting southern california. Haven't had service since 8:00am Pacific.

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Verizon in the Chicago area here. Been on SOS all day since 9 something this morning. Tried the network reset and it did nothing.

My wife’s phone on our plan has a bar. We both have iPhone 15 Pros. It’s been about 7 hours now without service. Hopefully it’s fixed by tonight.

[–] acxyzzy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m in the same area and have the same phone. It just came back online about 15 mins ago.

Nice! Here’s hoping I am soon, as well! Still showing SOS for me at 4:30pm.

Edit: got service back around 5pm
