I have no idea where to ask this or why I can't find anyone asking the same thing.

Right now I have an old unreliable 5TB drive for personal, 12TB drive for personal work projects, and an 8TB for contractor work projects. I am quickly going through that 8TB, and that 12TB is about a year away from filling.

I need a setup where I can buy some 8-12tb drives and a bay to manage them, but here's the kicker---I only need them to run maybe 1-2 hours a month. I don't need them for a server, just need something that I can keep unplugged, doesn't need Internet, and can simply plug in when I want and unplug when I'm done transferring. (All my video production is done on my computer thanks to 2+TB of space available all times, so a server workflow is a negative for me.)

Can I just buy any drive, or do I need something specific? Would a Nas drive be good cause it wont be running 24/7, or is it worse because I won't be running it. Thank you for helping my dumb ass in advanced lol
