Hi. I hope this is a good sub to ask this question.

I have a Crucial P3 pcie 3.0 nvme m.2 SSD which is rated at up to 3500mbps read speeds. I am using an external enclosure and cable rated up to 10gbps speed, connected to a mid-2014 15" Macbook Pro directly to the usb 3.0 port on which is rated up to 5gbps. However, I'm only getting ±40mbps transfer rates when running blackmagic's disk speed test. The SSD is formatted as ExFat for use on Win and MacOS.

Any ideas what the problem could be? The app I'm loading data into has a realtime transfer speed indicator which fluctuates between 40 and 25mbps, but I have seen "spikes" going up over 400mbps. This would actually be an adequate speed, if I could get it to be consistent.

I appreciate any advice!
