u/OfficialGaiusCaesar claims they were much brighter in person, which would make sense. They allegedly changed in elevation, which is hard to discern from the cell phone video. Assuming they are high in elevation, these objects seem truly anomalous.

Cell phone cameras have definitely hindered some aspects of recording UAP. Small objects in the distance and the night sky don't focus well and can become really distorted in the photo/video. But, any evidence is better than no evidence. I've seen quite a few videos of dancing lights like this that are difficult to explain.

Very true. They are improving, and the software is getting better at capturing video in low-light environments. Even these little dots of light tell a pretty incredible story. If only we had access to data that indicated the altitude of these objects. That information would tell us a lot.

Fireflies? That is interesting. They moved fast

[–] SignullGone@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

That's an interesting theory. The movement and blinking of these objects don't resemble the fireflies in my area. However, Destin from Smarter Every Day did produce a fascinating video on how fireflies blink and behave differently in various areas of the U.S., which you might find enlightening.

If we knew how high up these lights were, it could certainly rule out things like fireflies or other insects. Unfortunately, we lack concrete data on that. We'd have to rely on the account of the person who shot the video, who claimed these lights were at a high altitude and not near the ground at all.

Fireflies that I've seen tend to bob and sway more in their movements. Not to mention they're usually not illuminated for as long. Definitely a curious video though.
