I mean, if I were the DM there is a non-zero chance that the cat is in fact a dragon.

Better keep making offerings. Including that fresh fish you just caught.

(Also, there’s a non-zero chance it’s just a cat who is now a familiar. Because you fed it. And it’s going to loot all your fish and steak and stuff.)
