Exactly how you said, we also have a user guide now that details the method (you can access it here from the visual editor:)

edit: you're also right on the second question, you have to categorize library works in some way for them to appear in our new cards categories. Once we have 2 works from an author we add a card for them, otherwise until then try to find a topic card that applies. It's all explained in the user guide!
